Indeed, Malaysia is one of the luckiest country in the world. Previous government fully utilize the advantage of Malaysia really well which is promoting the tourism industry and come up with a slogan” cuti-cuti Malaysia ”to attract foreign tourist. As we know, tourism sector can bring jobs and income to the local people and cause less negative impact to the environment comparing to build a factory. Malaysia is rich in natural resources due to the geographical factor such as oil, palm oil, and rubber. Malaysia was once the largest exporter of palm oil and rubber. To-date, many of the public listed companies are from the plantation sector or manufacturing sector such as IOI plantation, TOPGLOVE and KAREX. Part of the success of the Malaysia can be attributed to Tun Mahathir when he was a PM and came up with a policy “look to the east” trying to shift Malaysia from a country that heavily rely on agriculture to a more modern industry by attracting foreign investors to establish a joint venture with local company so that the local people can enhance their know-how while working in those companies. Another strength of Malaysia is diversity. Malaysian speak different languages, has different religion belief and it is the Malaysia’s biggest asset. This was the reason why foreign company love to recruit Malaysian talents. Now, here is the harsh reality that needed to be known for all Malaysian. How many of us can master three languages which are BAHASA MALAYSIA, ENGLISH OR MANDARIN? I would say none. Only a few people can really master three of these languages. Let us just be very straightforward, different kind of schools are tearing apart the Malaysian. I am a UEC student and I know the real situation in Chinese independent school very well. Majority of the UEC students cannot speak English and Bahasa Malaysia fluently included me and we grew up in the environment that only mixed around with mandarin speaker. Yet, we tend to “shock sendiri” and said that Bahasa Malaysia and English are not important. The China is rising right now, and mandarin will become a must-learn language in the workforce very soon. Our education system is very exam-oriented do not train us how to express our opinion. For me, I think that we need to bring back the school that only use English as medium to improve the integrity of Malaysian and improve our English. By doing so, we are increasing the competitiveness of next generation and decrease the discrimination also. On top of that, NEP (New economic policy) should be completely abolished to attract more talents to come back and make contribution to the Malaysia. Second, GST is a must have in Malaysia. There is an old saying “politician is the oldest job in the world and they cannot be trusted”. This describes the situation very well in Malaysia. GST is a very fair  taxation system in the world and many advanced countries already implemented it a long time ago. To win in the General Election, politicians promised a lot of things in which some of the promise are hurting Malaysia in the long run. For instance, Pakatan Harapan made a promise to abolish GST. But, do you know that GST is a very good taxation system in terms of fairness? People always say that we cannot avoid two things which are dead and tax. However, this is not applied to some citizens. If I’m not mistaken, some citizens don’t have to pay taxes if they had paid the ZAKAT. Only the minority are contributing the tax to the country. In addition, how are we going to fund for the petrol subsidy in the long term. Bear in mind that, Malaysia is an export-oriented country and we export petrol as well. The fact is rising oil price is a double-edged sword. It will bring the Malaysia more revenue with rising cost of living (all sectors need transportation). It somehow cancels each other out. But, we will use up the oil one day and we need to diverse our country income through a tax reform , improving our tourism industry or other methods.
